Fitting in or not...

Many times in my life, I felt that I did not fit in. During these times, I felt abandoned, alone, disrespected, and neglected by myself and others. I found that one of the only places I found hope and healing with others were in some church environments and in the rooms of 12-step groups. I felt loved and appreciated. I felt like people understood me and did not feel alone. It was one of the first times I learned about what I liked and what I wanted - AND that what I wanted was good. It taught me how to have boundaries and healthier relationships. I am forever grateful to the kind souls in these organizations who took me under their wings, shared their love with me, appreciated me, saw me, and listened to me, when no one else could or was willing to.
I later learned of Jesus Christ's love for me and that is beyond my understanding. He is such a good, kind, gentle, generous God who never stops giving. He made everyone in his image for a unique and particular purpose. He does not forget us. He always remembers who we are, lifts us up from and out of the darkness, and brings us strength and grace to do the things that He has called us to do.

"Love is patient. Love is kind." 1 Corinthians 13:4
