In my early twenties, I was a victim of domestic violence. Now I am a survivor of domestic violence. This experience was a catalyst to me becoming who I am today. My grandmother was also a survivor of domestic violence when she was trying to raise her six young kids AND she is one of the most courageous, faithful women I have ever met. She inspires me. Her faith in Jesus was so strong and probably what has kept my faith going during some of the difficulties in my life. She always gave me hope. They say "Your grandmother's prayers are still protecting you today," and I truly believe that.
As a result of my own and my grandmother's experience with this situation, I have learned a lot more about women's rights - who women are, who they become as a result of family situations or their upbringings, and what they can overcome. We all have the power to heal any situation we are go through in life. It may seem difficult in the moment, it may seem like things are unclear, but there is always a path out of the darkness and into the light.
"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me with not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
